XTERRA Waihi - 'one of the toughest races'

This is what Jason Herriman said when I saw him at the AKL Marathon event in the weekend. I could have the same casual approach to Waihi as I did to the 11km Traverse in the weekend but no, Jason is a wise man and knows what he is talking about.

We often know what to do, we don't always get it done. I know I need to run more over the next 5 weeks. Goal: Run 2 x /week, each run 5-10 km. Putting it on this post means I am accountable to you, and I know there are people out there who will ask how the running is going... When you are held accountable for your actions you:

* are more likely to get it done

* have a goal and can track your milestones / success

* will work harder because you know people are watching (check out the Hawthorne Effect)

* gives you deadlines

On a side note, I caught up with some of my XTERRA mates at the 11km Traverse - I did only see them at the start and the finish (as per the finish line photo) as they've been putting in the running training and it showed as they smashed the sub 60 minute mark. Well done, awesome effort Juan and James.
